Dow Gains 150 Points; Coca-Cola Posts Upbeat Earnings

U.S. stocks traded mixed this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 150 points on Tuesday.

Following the market opening Tuesday, the Dow traded up 0.27% to 49,299.31 while the NASDAQ fell 1.06% to 24,622.60. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.52% to 7,136.91.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Energy shares jumped by 1.7% on Tuesday.

In trading on Tuesday, information technology stocks fell by 1.8%.

Top Headline

Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) reported better-than-expected first-quarter financial results and raised its FY26 adjusted EPS guidance above estimates.

Coca-Cola reported quarterly earnings of 86 cents per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 81 cents per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $12.500 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $12.241 billion.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Baiya International Group Inc (NASDAQ:BIYA) shares shot up 126% to $1.76 after the company announced that its cryptocurrency Ark Plan Digital Asset Strategy passed the first round of public voting, with Binance coin formally selected as the inaugural core digital asset.
  • Shares of Nexera Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:NEXR) got a boost, surging 63% to $3.25 after the company announced that its subsidiary KeepZone AI has received official authorization to introduce advanced fuel tank structural survivability system in the Gulf region.
  • Aterian Inc (NASDAQ:ATER) shares were also up, gaining 35% to $1.02 after the company agreed to sell its e-commerce brand portfolio for $18 million to Trademark Global.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Soligenix, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNGX) shares dropped 64% to $0.51 after the company announced interim results from the Phase 3 FLASH2 trial evaluating HyBryte™ in the treatment of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma.
  • Shares of Vistance Networks Inc (NASDAQ:VISN) were down 51% to $9.61.
  • Erasca Inc (NASDAQ:ERAS) was down, falling 49% to $9.85. Erasca said it intends to vigorously contest allegations made by Revolution Medicines.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 3.3% to $99.56 while gold traded down 2.3% at $4,586.20.

Silver traded down 3.4% to $72.455 on Tuesday, while copper fell 0.7% to $5.9810.

Euro zone

European shares were mixed today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 fell 0.5%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.4%. London's FTSE 100 fell 0.2%, Germany's DAX fell 0.4% and France's CAC 40 slipped 0.5% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Tuesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 1.02%, China's Shanghai Composite slipping 0.19%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index falling 0.95% and India's BSE Sensex dipping 0.54%.

Economics

  • The S&P Cotality Case-Shiller Home Price Index increased 0.9% year-over-year in February, easing from 1.2% in the previous month.
  • The FHFA house price index came in unchanged in February, compared to market estimates of a 0.2% increase.
  • U.S. private-sector employers added an average of 39,250 jobs a week during the four weeks ending April 11.
