Dow Falls Over 100 Points; Verizon Earnings Top Views

U.S. stocks traded lower this morning, with the Dow Jones index dipping over 100 points on Friday.

Following the market opening Friday, the Dow traded down 0.28% to 48,933.32 while the NASDAQ fell 0.28% to 23,619.57. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.24% to 6,952.62.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Consumer staples shares gained by 0.2% on Friday.

In trading on Friday, materials stocks fell by 1.4%.

Top Headline

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter financial results and issued FY26 adjusted EPS guidance above estimates.

The company reported quarterly revenue growth of 2.0% year-over-year (Y/Y), reaching $36.40 billion, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $36.06 billion. Adjusted EPS of $1.09 topped the analyst consensus estimate of $1.05.

  • Twin Hospitality Group Inc (NASDAQ:TWNP) shares shot up 205% to $0.83 f.
  • Shares of TechCreate Group Ltd (NYSE:TCGL) got a boost, surging 20% to $177.00. TechCreate stated it "is not aware of any material nonpublic information that has not been publicly disclosed" that would account for the trading activity, according to a Thursday statement from the company, responding to a NYSE American inquiry issued before Thursday's regular session.
  • VivoSim Labs Inc (NASDAQ:VIVS) shares were also up, gaining 70% to $2.89 after the company announced it signed JCBio as an authorized distributor in Korea and Tekon Biotech as an authorized distributor in China for its NAMKind toxicology services in liver and small intestine.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Brand Engagement Network Inc (NASDAQ:BNAI) shares dropped 42% to $30.74 after the company announced it entered into a securities purchase agreement for a $1.518 million private placement at $63.25 per share.
  • Shares of PennyMac Financial Services Inc (NYSE:PFSI) were down 35% to $97.39 after the company reported worse-than-expected quarterly financial results.
  • Tian Ruixiang Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:TIRX) was down, falling 17% to $0.098.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.4% to $65.68 while gold traded down 4.7% at $5,103.20.

Silver traded down 14% to $98.420 on Friday, while copper fell 2.6% to $6.0395.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.7%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1.8%. London's FTSE 100 rose 0.4%, Germany's DAX gained 0.9% and France's CAC 40 gained 0.8% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Friday, with Japan's Nikkei falling 0.1%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dipping 2.08%, China's Shanghai Composite falling 0.96% and India's BSE Sensex falling 0.36%.

Economics

U.S. producer prices increased 0.5% month-over-month in December, recording the largest rise in three months, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month and exceeding market expectations of 0.2%.
